Description

What Is the Fair Housing training?

Everyone who applies for housing has the right to be treated the same. The Fair Housing Act was created with the goal of advising landlords, lenders, buyers, and renters of the housing practices that could be considered discriminatory.

The fair housing act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and disability.

The Fair Housing Act is a law that was created to put an end to discriminatory practices involving any activities related to housing. The Act was created with the belief that every person has the right to rent a home, purchase a home, or get a mortgage on a home without being afraid of discrimination due to their membership in a certain class of people.

This three (3) hour training will provide you an understanding of the provisions of the federal Fair Housing Act and local laws which prohibit housing discrimination.

Once these laws are explained, attendees will learn how unconscious/implicit biases we all hold by virtue of history, culture, customs and media, may inform our interactions with persons unfamiliar to us – through no fault of your own.

Training is provided by the Pinellas County Office of Human Rights by Mark Esparza, Equal Opportunity Coordinator, and its Director, Jeffery Lorick.

The training is meant to be interactive, with participation and questions welcomed and expected.
Be prepared for an informative, impactful three (3) hours, which will allow you to be better real estate professionals.

NAR's new interactive tool Fairhaven: A Fair Housing Simulation is an excellent program to enhance the training from Pinellas CO Office of Human Rights.
